ERIN SEED LENDING LIBRARY
Membership Information
Borrow. Grow. Return.
The seed library is a free program that is being launched to empower community members by reducing a barrier and increasing our ability to feed ourselves wholesome foods by offering seeds and education.
My hope with this endeavour is to help people in Erin (and other towns!) to try growing something new, to increase their knowledge and interest in growing things, to get their kids involved in growing things, to increase their connection to the natural world, and to foster a culture of sharing.
Each seed is a potential life. With a little soil, a little water and sun, and a little love, it will grow so big. From an acorn to a huge oak tree. From one sunflower seed to a flower head with hundreds. Returning seeds to the library after your harvest or donating others will conserve the variety, add to the biodiversity, and enable someone else to be sustainable in their garden.
Beans, peas, lettuce, tomatoes and peppers all self pollinate, so it is easier to collect seeds from them that are true to the variety. It is preferable to have seeds in the library that are non GMO, organic and heritage, but I do not want to deter donors by only accepting those.
Please borrow from the library. Enjoy growing fresh herbs, vegetables, fruits and flowers in your garden this summer. After your harvest, please return some seeds back to the library for others to enjoy. It is an honour system, and there are no overdue fines!
I no longer have sign out sheets for the seeds, but please remember that returns and donations are what keep the library going.
Thank you very much!
