Hi everyone! Jan 23, 2018
The good news is there will be a seed talk on Wed Feb 28th at 7:30 pm, Wellington Room at Centre 2000. Joanne Howes and I will be talking about how to start plants from seeds and how to collect and save seeds in the fall. The bad news is that the talk is only open to members of the Erin Garden Club. But there is more good news! Garden Club membership is only $10. With that membership you get discounts at Country Crops, Budsons and other fantastic places. There are other great talks, the first one is this Wed, called The Gems of the Bruce Trail. On March 28th it will be "Successful vegetable gardening." April's talk is on Hellebores, and June's is about Irises. There are also 3 workshops. In May there is Plant an herb container, July is the Kindness Rock Project, and there will be a Christmas one. There are flower shows and photography shows that are judged and ribbons are given out. There is a supply fee for the workshops, but the rest is covered in the $10 membership, and that is a lot. I wanted to send this out now in case anyone wanted to join and go to the first meeting which is this Wed Jan 24th at 7:30. It is in the Wellington Room which is just off the arena lobby at cenre 2000. That is also Bring a Friend day, so if you just want to try it out, or hear about the Bruce Trail, you can go as a friend and not get a membership. Only that one though! Doesn't work for my seed talk – I tried! I don't have a date set yet for the reopening of the seed library. I think it will be in March. If you have any seeds still to return or donate to the library, there is still a drop box in the centre 2000 book library. It is on the window sill, by the plants. Please label as well as you can. Thank you very much! More good news is that Martin Rudd and I are setting up a Seedy Saturday for Erin. Bigger centres have them, and Everdale used to have one, but they are not doing it anymore. It is like a little garden show with vendors that sell seeds or garden supplies or seedling plants. There is a table for seed exchanges where you can take as much as you have brought. There will be some kids crafts and seed education, and my seed library will be there. Fergus has a Seedy Saturday on March 17th and Guelph is on March 25th, Erin's Seedy Saturday will be Sat April 7th from 11-3 in the basement of the Erin United Church. We are still looking for vendors, so let me know if you are interested in selling anything. I hope you will all come as patrons! Entrance is free! There is also the Guelph Organic Conference this weekend which might interest some of you. You have to pay for the seminars, but the trade show is free. https://guelphorganicconf.ca/ That is all the news for now, and most of it was Good!!! Take care, I hope to see you soon!
